Background
Herotime exists because its maker is a competitive swimmer who watched coaches lose valuable performance data every single session — juggling handheld stopwatches and transcribing wet notepads after training.
Marco Bremer, a long-time competitive (now Masters) swimmer based in Berlin, invented a new way of timing not just one athlete but several at once — with a single button. After extensive experimentation starting in 2015, with input from top international coaches, the method was filed for patent protection and granted as U.S. Patent 11,080,947 B2 in December 2021.
The method — Tap & Arrange™ — also solves the one shortcoming of a smartphone versus an old-school handheld stopwatch: the lack of a central physical button with immediate haptic feedback. Herotime explicitly supports the iPhone's volume button as the timing button, so a coach can time by feel with eyes on the athletes.
