About Herotime

What is Herotime?
Herotime is the patented single-button multi stopwatch for sports coaches — an iPhone app that times many athletes at once with one button, even the phone's physical volume button. The mode of your tap decides who the time belongs to (U.S. Patent 11,080,947 B2). It comes with a 1-month free trial, then $9.99/year — an introductory relaunch price, regularly $49.99/year.
What exactly does the patent cover?
The Tap & Arrange™ method: starting athletes by tap mode (rapid tap for a group, short tap for the next single athlete, long press for everyone remaining), assigning every subsequent tap to the right athlete in circular order, fixing an overtake with a drag, and using the phone's physical volume button as the timing button. The full mechanism is explained in How Herotime works.
Is Herotime available for Android?
No — Herotime is built for the iPhone and current iOS. The physical volume button as the timing button is part of the patented method, and the app is designed around it.

Timing multiple athletes

How do I time multiple athletes at once with one iPhone?
With a multi stopwatch that doesn't make you aim at per-athlete buttons. In Herotime, one button covers everyone: a rapid tap sequence starts a group (one athlete per tap), a short tap starts the next single athlete, and a long press starts everyone remaining. Once athletes are running, every tap records the next split and assigns it automatically to the least-recently-timed athlete, in circular order. If someone overtakes, one drag reassigns the time. See the method in detail — including a live demo you can try in the browser.
Can I use my iPhone's volume button as a stopwatch button?
Yes. In Herotime the physical volume button works as the timing button — an explicitly patented part of the method (claim 23). You time by feel, eyes on your athletes, and the phone handles like a traditional handheld stopwatch. Pair it with a neck strap and it hangs like one too.
Can Herotime handle staggered or interval starts?
Yes. Athletes wait in your chosen starting order, and each short tap starts the next one — so staggered starts, interval starts, and late arrivals are one tap each. You can mix modes freely in the same session: rapid-tap a heat away, short-tap a latecomer, long-press the rest.
What is the best stopwatch app for swim or track coaches?
It depends on what you time. For one athlete, any good lap & split stopwatch works. For pacing workouts, use an interval timer. For several athletes at once — a lane of swimmers, a training group on the track — you need a multi stopwatch that never asks you to aim at the right button; Herotime is the single-button multi stopwatch built for exactly that scenario. We keep an honest comparison of stopwatch apps for coaches, including the ones we didn't build.
Does Herotime work offline?
Yes. Timing runs entirely on your iPhone — pool decks and back-country trails included. Your athletes, groups, and timing history stay on your device; you only need a connection for the App Store and for sharing exports.
How do I get my times out of the app?
Every session exports as clean CSV through the iOS Share Sheet — AirDrop it, mail it, or save it to Files. Each athlete's time series (start, splits, finish, and per-split cadence) opens straight in Excel or any spreadsheet.
